Celebrate Black History Month With Our Black-Owned Restaurant Guide

At Pack Up + Go, we’re all about exploring new destinations and supporting local businesses. One of our company’s core values is to inspire positive change + conscious consumption, and more than 20% of all businesses we recommend to our travelers are minority-owned. This Black History Month, we’re thrilled to share 10 of the incredible Black-owned restaurants, bakeries, and bars that we book + recommend to our travelers across the country.

We hope they become the highlight of your next getaway!

  • Ben’s Chili Bowl – Washington, DC

A trip to DC wouldn’t be complete without a stop at this iconic eatery. Since 1958, Ben’s Chili Bowl has been serving its famous half-smokes + chili to locals, tourists, and even presidents. With its rich history and welcoming atmosphere, this is the perfect spot to grab a bite in the nation’s capital.

  • Walter’s – Pittsburgh, PA

Nestled in Lawrenceville, one of our go-to neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, Walter’s is a must-visit for dinner, brunch, or drinks with friends. The menu is approachable and delicious, and the indoor/outdoor seating options make it the ideal place to eat after a day of exploring the Steel City year round.

  • The Grey – Savannah, GA

Savannah is one of our team’s favorite destinations, and The Grey is one of our favorite restaurants in town! The restaurant has received a ton of accolades, and is celebrated for its stunning transformation of a historic Greyhound bus station. Known for its elevated Southern cuisine, this spot is perfect for a memorable dinner or lunch in one of the most charming cities in the South.

  • Café Campagne – Seattle, WA

Café Campagne is a Seattle staple, and for good reason. Located in the iconic Pike Place Market, this French-inspired café is the perfect place to savor a leisurely brunch or cozy dinner. Pair the elegant dishes with a glass of wine and enjoy the vibes in one of the most iconic food destinations in the country.

  • Nomad Donuts – San Diego, CA

Craving something sweet? Nomad Donuts is one of our favorite bakeries in sunny San Diego. Known for its creative flavor combinations and globally inspired treats, this spot is perfect for grabbing a donut (or three) before hitting the beach.

  • Vine Street Brewing Co. – Kansas City, MO

Cheers to Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery! Vine Street Brewing Co. is not just a trailblazer but also a community hub. With its innovative craft beers and welcoming vibe, this brewery has quickly become one of the top spots to visit in Kansas City. They were voted one of the best breweries to watch in 2024, and we couldn’t agree more!

  • MIDA – Boston, MA

If you’re a foodie visiting Boston, MIDA is a must. This charming restaurant in the heart of the South End offers impeccable handmade pastas, a curated wine list, and cocktails that will keep you coming back for more. It’s a cozy retreat in the heart of Boston and one of our favorite places to make reservations for our travelers.

  • Emmer & Rye / Hestia – Austin, TX

Austin’s food scene is legendary, and these sister restaurants deliver on all fronts. Emmer & Rye focuses on seasonal, locally sourced dishes, while Hestia wows with its fire-centric cooking. Both promise an unforgettable dining experience, and are well worth reserving in advance! You won’t regret it.

  • Jewel of the South – New Orleans, LA

In a city known for its incredible cocktail scene, it can be hard to stand out. But if you’re in New Orleans, Jewel of the South is a must-visit. This acclaimed bar offers expertly crafted cocktails and a historic ambiance. With a James Beard-nominated owner, expect nothing but excellence from the menu to the service!
