Our Favorite Cities to Visit in Spring

Spring is the perfect time to explore some of the most charming cities in the South before the summer heat sets in. With warm but comfortable temps, and all of their beaches and outdoor activities available, these destinations make for some of the best spring trips. Whether you're traveling for delicious food, history + sightseeing, or time outdoors, here are some of the top spring travel destinations to visit in April and May.

Miami, FL

We love Miami in the spring, even if it gets a little bit crowded with spring breakers. This time of year is ideal for lounging on the beach, exploring the colorful Wynwood Walls, or enjoying Miami’s iconic nightlife scene. The city also hosts major spring events like the Miami Open and the Miami Beach Pride Festival. With summer’s humidity not yet in full force, it’s the best time to take a boat tour of Biscayne Bay or stroll through the lush gardens of Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Even if you’re not looking for spring break parties, you’re sure to have a great time in Miami!

Savannah, GA

If you're looking for one of the best spring destinations in the South, Savannah is a must. Known for its charming cobblestone streets, grand oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and historic squares, this city is stunning in the springtime. Forsyth Park bursts into full bloom, and visitors can take a riverboat cruise along the Savannah River to learn about the city’s history, or take a ghost tour to learn about its spooky side. The Savannah Music Festival and the SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival both happen in the spring, making it a perfect time to visit. If the weather gets too warm, simply take a day trip to Tybee Island to relax on the beach!.

Charleston, SC

Charleston is a dream destination in the spring, when the azaleas and wisteria are in full bloom and the temperatures are just right for exploring without a coat. Stroll through the historic French Quarter to enjoy the foodie scene, take a selfie in front of the famed Rainbow Row of colorful houses, or explore the city’s history. Food lovers will be in heaven, with everything from Lowcountry cuisine, to incredible fine dining, great drinks, and everything in between. You certainly won’t be bored, and you definitely won’t leave hungry!

Austin, TX

For music, food, and outdoor adventure, Austin is one of the best spring trips you can take. Spring brings ideal weather for kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, or swimming in Barton Springs Pool with the locals. There’s great live music year round, but spring is our favorite time to enjoy it when there’s even more happening outdoors. April and May are also packed with events, from the Austin Reggae Festival to the Pecan Street Festival, making it the perfect time to experience all the city has to offer before the summer heat rolls in.

New Orleans, LA

New Orleans is an absolute blast to visit any time of the year, but Spring is our favorite season. Even if you’re not visiting for the iconic Jazz Fest, the city will be alive with live music on Frenchman Street every night. Strolling through the Garden District or taking a steamboat tour on the Mississippi are infinitely more enjoyable before the heat and humidity become too intense. Plus, you can sit outside and comfortably enjoy a beignet at Cafe du Monde or a glass of wine at Bacchanal Fine Wine + Spirits before strolling through the French Quarter and snapping a picture in Jackson Square!

Scottsdale, AZ

Scottsdale is an absolute desert oasis in the summer! The city has perfect weather to take advantage of all of the outdoor activities in the region like hiking on Camelback Mountain or mountain. After you’ve gotten your exercise, the spring temps will be perfect for relaxing by the pool! Then, stroll through Old Town Scottsdale to grab dinner, a drink, or design your own cowboy hat as a souvenir.

Plus, if you’re a sports fan, the city will be absolutely buzzing with MLB spring training!

If you're looking to take a springtime vacation, now is the time to plan your trip before the temperatures rise across the south.
