From the Owner
What is your name?
Rachel and Will Strobolson
Where is your business located?
Denver, CO
What inspired you to start the business?
After returning to Denver from a year-long sabbatical around South America with my husband, I decided it was time for a career change. I love creating experiences for people and I have a genuine love for providing great service. As a Colorado Native I’ve always enjoyed sharing the best places to explore when visiting Denver, so becoming a tour guide was a real natural fit! In February of 2018, I launched Denver Local Tours to share my love for the Mile High City.
What about your business are you most proud of?
The experiences that we create for our guests! This is not just a business or a job to us, it is who we are.
What do you enjoy most about running your business?
The guests are certainly the best part and we enjoy meeting people from all over the world! We also enjoy the lifestyle of not punching a clock and the ability to let our creativity run wild. It is extremely satisfying to think up an idea of a new tour, do the historical research, create stories, and watch the tour come to life.
What challenges have you faced as a business owner?
Breaking into the market, and getting our name out there.
What do you think makes your business unique?
We are a husband and wife team with original and unique walking tours. We are known for our storytelling abilities and how we bring history to life through interesting anecdotes and humor.
If you had to describe the business in 3 words, what would they be?
Passionate, Unique, Entertaining
The Fun Stuff
What is your favorite spot to visit in your city?
Cherry Creek Bike Path. It is so fun to bike, scooter, run, or walk along the creek. When you’re on the path you feel the beat of the city.
What is your favorite food or restaurant to enjoy in your city?
The Franklin from Denver Biscuit Company. The Burger at Hearth and Dram.
What is your favorite spot in the U.S. to travel to and why?
New Orleans - The food, the music, the people, the drinks.
Which of the five senses do you appreciate the most when you travel and why?
Taste - We are major foodies + love to sample the local food from every city we visit!
Do you have a travel memory that is important to you?
Ah, there are so many memories it's hard to pick just one. One that stands out the most was our trek to Choquequirao (the sister city of Machu Picchu). It's a grueling 3-day hike. Most people go with guides, have donkeys carry their packs/food/water, etc. but we completed the trek with our own 2 legs. Less than 30 people per day visit these ruins, so you basically feel like you have the whole place to yourself. (very different than Machu Picchu). This trek really solidified we can do anything we put our minds to.
What would the name of your biography be?
The Strobolsons - A New Dynasty
